I'm a Junior in high school, and I want to be a writer. I have been itching to join a writing focused class since Junior High. So finally I am old enough to get the elective, and I was pretty excited, though as I started to get into it, I realized that I wasn't really learning anything.

Don't get ne wrong, I enjoy the class and it's good practice, but that's it. All it does is give me allotted time to sit down and write, which is fine, but I wanted more. The teacher doesn't give hardly any crituque. She grades grammar, but says nothing but compliments. I know that my works are imperfect and I want to get better, but no one wants to point anything out.

Not to mention the classmates; some of them are just human embodiments of apathy. Others put forth an effort, but I'm the only one who is passionate about writing. We started compiling our works into a collective book, so naturally we are editing papers. Apparently I am the only one who knows how to proofread properly.

I actually have no idea where I'm going with this. Its turning into a rant with no call for advice or discussion. I'm just putting it out there. I guess what I'm trying to say is that living in a small town really sucks.
