I read fantasy and watch a lot of TV. I aspire to tell great stories like Avatar the Last Airbender or Stormlight Archive, and I want to entertain people via writing. Hopefully via epic fantasy, as that's my favorite genre.
But every time I sit down to flesh out ideas, I just feel nothing.
I don't feel a sense of direction, or a message I want to convey. I don't even have an idea for characters I want to write about. I feel like I don't have the "spark" that I need to understand why I'm even writing the story in the first place.
I've watched lectures by my favorite authors, and listened to hundreds of episodes of Writing Excuses podcast. And yet, I still don't feel like I know what I even want to write.
I DO try to think about what I want to write about, but nothing comes to mind. It almost seems like what I WANT to write is already written in the forms of my favorite stories.
Does anyone else have this problem? Has anyone overcome this and would like to share some advice? Haha
