I don't have a lot of experience in creative writing. No classes or workshops, I've only written in my spare time but even that was years ago. However, I have a longing to write again and this time I want to be serious about it. I already have two outlines formed for two different novels, but I don't know which one to start on first.

I am excited to write both, but I am thinking one of the novels will need to be a trilogy so it will take some time to be completely finished. I also believe that the same novel will be loads better than the other one simply because I've been working out kinks in my head for years now (yes, I have been planning this for years), and this would be my writing preference right now. This is the novel that I see getting more attention out of the two in the future; I want it to be as good as it possibly could be.

Should I start writing my other novel instead of the one I would prefer to write? This would allow me to discover my voice, my strengths and weaknesses, and it would give me experience that I could carry into my next novel. Or should I head straight into my ideal novel and hope that my first draft will give me the experience I need? Also, is taking a creative writing class either online or in person necessary? I've read a lot of articles and watched a lot of videos over the years about creative writing, but I'm not sure if this alone will cut it.
