They aren't exactly the same, but are all areas I'm WEAK at.
Regarding description, I'm the type of person who tries to say things efficiently, without wasting words. Maybe writing isn't for me since some of you effortlessly use as many words as you want but not me. Writers love to fill you with description while minimizing the action. I wish I could do that, but description doesn't pour out of me the way other things may.
I lack interest in research, so I have to find a way to make it more fun or at least know what I'm looking for. Problem is I don't know what to look for. I just want authenticity in my story and I don't know what details I need. There is no convienant way to figure out what authentic details your story needs.
Regarding plotting, I'd like to have the next few plot points ready at a given time, like knowing which branches are right above you climbing a tree, without knowing the whole tree. At this point in one story, I just know one small branch ahead of me, but nothing stable enough. I want to be able to brain storm a few nice branches at a time.
I'd like to know what books deal with these areas. Advice would be fine, so long as it isn't condescending.
