For those of you who are unfamiliar it is written by the same author who wrote The Kite Runner. If you enjoyed Kite Runner then you will love this book. It is set in Afghanistan from the 70’s through to 2003 and follows two women who are forced into marriage and are consequently abused and mistreated by their husbands. The story is set during the wars in Afghanistan, with the constant threat of the Soviets, Taliban and many more. As the book’s blurb puts it “A Thousand Splendid Suns is an unforgettable portrait of a wounded country and a deeply moving story of family and friendship.” I especially recommend it to those who aren’t used to reading foreign books or have little experience with life in a third world country. You see images and recounts on the news and other sources, but Khaled is able to convey the reality of living in this culture in an engaging and entertaining manner, unable to be simply described in any photo or video. I simply can’t do this book the justice it deserves in one paragraph, all I can say is that if you are uncertain in what book to read next I highly recommend the Kite Runner and it’s even better sequel A Thousand Splendid Suns.

If anybody who has read can describe it any better comment it below.
