Hi everyone, high school history teacher here, and I have been given an incredible opportunity. However, this opportunity just so happens to require me to make one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to face — or probably will face — in my life.
So, I won a free roundtrip flight to/from anywhere in the world! I immediately thought, “oh great! I get to experience history and culture!” It wasn’t until I started planning that I realized just how many options there were.
I am from the US and have only been out of the country three times to the Bahamas and Mexico. I want to go somewhere where I can just indulge in history and culture and experience it firsthand. However, I can’t decide. I first thought Austria & Germany, then I thought Italy, then Japan, then Antarctica, then Africa…
So, I came to reddit looking for ideas. My question to you is a simple question that requires a lot of thought. If you could go anywhere in world to experience history & culture, where would you go, and why? Or, if you have taken trips, where did you go, what did you do, and why did you love it?
I am a huge history nerd. I love learning about history, cultures, religions, etc. I love museums and sightseeing. I have family who has visited all over Western Europe and loved it. I have family in Okinawa that I could stay with; they would also take me to the main island of Japan and show me around (Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka…).
TL;DR — I won a free flight to anywhere in the world, and I can’t decide where I want to go to experience history.
