Anyone ever get this?
I have been working for about five years on my biggest/favorite project (what I consider my magnum opus), trying to get everything right, stopping when I hit a block and working on something else as not to force anything and have it come out terrible. In the space of that five years, I have published 3 books that are doing so-so, and I was excited about, but didn't LOVE. So, about 3 months ago, I finally finished this project and let it sit for this past month before I came back to it.
Now, I am getting probably unrealistically upset with the project seeing how absolutely horrible my writing used to be 3, 4, 5 years ago and it's putting a damper on my willingness to finish the editing process. It's taken me nearly a week per chapter to fix all the mistakes and I am finding things that are just…so hard to fix it almost feels like I need to rewrite the entire first half of the book due to structure, POV issues, and poor grammar.
Anyone else been here? If so, how did you/did you get past it?
