I was always sort of under the impression that the Julii went extinct or at least faded to complete obscurity after the end of the Julio-Claudian dynasty but this connection between Zenobia and Mark Antony (a Julii on his maternal side) showed me that although she may not have considered her Julii ancestry important, it still demonstrates that the family was still pumping out important members centuries after Caesar, Augustus, and other prominent family members (even if she may not have put any stock into her Julii connection).
Did she put any stock into this connection? Was her connection to the Julii known or even considered by any of her contemporaries?
Did any other similarly distant familial connections exist in Antiquity where families reappear with prominent members after large periods of obscurity? Another example that comes to mind is the Brutii with Lucius Junius Brutus as the supposed founder of the Republic and Marcus Junius Brutus the Younger as the friend and assassin of Julius Caesar centuries apart.
