Hello, everybody! I hope all is well.

I was outlining my novel yesterday and today, and it has changed significantly from my original idea (a story about a short quest) and has evolved into the entire backstory of how the magic system I'm developing came to be. Is this something I should avoid? I've been reading plenty of posts about how explaining the magic in the beginning is very necessary, whether it be hard or soft. My climax would be a realization the main characters have about how the magic has just changed, effecting the entire world. Almost like a fantasy-mystery with plot intertwined.

Am I reaching for the stars a bit with this idea? I'm sorry if these are stupid questions, this is the first time I'm writing a book and the very first time I'm doing a proper outline. It's all very exciting but I want to avoid the big mistakes beginners make.

Regardless, thanks for the input and have a wonderful day.
