I've just come back from a meeting with my career specialist, They have warned me greatly not to major in history as the field is too competitive and statistically underpaid, i was told that i should only use my history minor as a stepping stone towards a more lucrative field such as law.
My councilor said without being in the top 5% of my class i'm more likely to end up on welfare than having a entitled position within the field.
I've got to be honest, i'm in quite the panic about this, I've used a lot of student loans to get to this point and i was told by my finical manager that its a general rule of thumb that you only want to take a history if your wealthy enough to take the losses as this field won't be able to reliably pay off debt for the vast majority.
Hopefully this doesn't come off as too cynical, I've always been very positive towards my love for history, It's the only thing i've ever imagined myself doing, even at the age of 7, i'm just feeling very overwhelmed and pressured to drop history.
